Château d’Eck Pessac-Léognan 2012

Château d’Eck Pessac-Léognan 2012

“BÄSTA KÖP! ***” – Allt om Vin nr 10/2015

On the nose Château D’Eck is subtle and rich with fine spices and elegant toasted oak. On the pallet, the ample and silky aroma reveals wonderfully pretty fruit with true depth and definition of damsons and bilberries layered with smoky, toasty notes and a lingering finish to perfection. Good structure and intensity, nice vivacity and marked acidity which supports the graceful and precise tannins. Serve at 15-17 C.

Biological production.

Château d’Eck, Bordeaux

Organic Modern Winemaking with Medieval Heritage

Château D’Eck is a beautiful medieval castle with four towers, and a wall from the late twelfth century, in the commune of Cadaujac. It was already a famous site in the Middle Ages for the production of fruit. In 1287, Edouard 1st gives the castle to the church and the bishops of Bordeaux took up residence between the 13th and 15th centuries. Also the Pope lived in Château d’Eck in 1305 under the name of Pope Clement V. In the French Revolution, the church lost the castle and in 1824, François Eck gives it his name.

Frédéric Gonet acquires this majestic area in 1999, and embodies the first generation of the Gonet family to have settled in the Bordeaux area. The Gonet family realized a large architectural restoration work of the Château and applied their expertise in the vineyard. The varied terroirs ranging from gravelly ridges to sandy soils on clay are well exposed and suitable for cultivation of excellent vines. The vineyard, stretches over 14 hectares of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, are processed according to the rules of the Organic viticulture and the land is worked with horses instead of tractors.

In the Pessac-Léognan appellation, weather conditions combined with the geological features of terraces created by the movements of the Garonne River several tens of thousands of years ago, enable the terroir to produce charming, delightful, aromatic, delicate wines with a polished nose, good balance and no shortage of intensity. Lots of ripe fruit and good structure, great vivacity and marked acidity supports the tannins.
